All roads lead to Rome

My wife and I have been following the traces of Roman civilization from Portugal, through Spain, then France, and then into Italy via Tuscany, Umbria and now Rome.

Rome is overwhelming. Every time you turn a corner, you either stumble on a beautiful palace, cathedral, fountain, piazza or a monument reminding you that in the beginning was Rome.

The language, the olive oil, the wine, the houses made of brick and stone, even the Roman Catholic religion…in a way the whole of the Western Mediterranean is really a testament to the enduring power of what Rome created, starting from a little village on the Tiber. Awe inspiring.
